The British Academy of Childhood Disability invites colleagues working with disabled children, young people and their families to submit abstracts for its Annual Scientific Meeting (ASM) 2025
The ASM, taking place on Wednesday 7 May 2025, attracts speakers and delegates from across the UK. The theme for 2025 is: Safeguarding children and young people with special needs and disabilities: a multi-faceted approach.
BACD welcomes abstracts specifically related to this theme and also in the wider context of childhood disability in the following two categories: Original Research and Novel Multi-Disciplinary Team Working.
The best poster presentation at the ASM will win the Mac Keith Press Best Poster Prize of £250.
This is an excellent opportunity to showcase your work in this area and to share best practice with interested professionals from around the country.
It is expected that you will register to attend the Conference in Sheffield in order to showcase your poster, and places will be reserved at the Super Early Bird rate for successful candidates.
We look forward to receiving your abstracts and to welcoming you to the ASM in May!
Abstract Criteria
The following criteria apply to all abstracts submitted:
- The abstract should not exceed 300 words. This does not include the title, authors’ names or references. Only the first 300 words of your abstract will be reviewed. It is your responsibility to ensure that no more than 300 words are submitted.
- Abstracts should be structured as follows. Abstracts deviating from this will be penalised.
- Aims/Objectives
- Methods
- Results
- Conclusions
- Acronyms and abbreviations must be explained.
- The abstract text must not contain any identifiable patient information and information about the presenters/institutions involved should be minimised as far as possible. This is to protect anonymity and to facilitate the blind review process.
- Generic drug names are preferred. Trade names should only be used when absolutely necessary.
- The author is required to indicate if their abstract has been presented elsewhere.
- Authors are welcome to submit multiple abstracts.
- Industry abstracts will only be accepted if the lead author is a practicing clinician.
Abstract Scoring
All abstracts will be scored against the following:
- Originality and novelty
- Evaluation results linked to conclusion
- Importance of findings and relevance to clinical practice and families with disabled children and young people
Novel MDT abstracts will also be scored against:
- Description of intervention
- Multi Disciplinary Approach
If selected for Poster Presentation
- At least one named author must register to attend the ASM in person in Sheffield to present the poster.
- Undergraduate students and foundation doctors selected will receive free registration to attend and present their poster.
- To enable all delegates - in person and virtual - to be able to view and hear your poster, you must also submit your poster in Powerpoint and also record an audio narrative to the poster (3 minutes max) 2 weeks in advance of the ASM.
